Support Event For Grand Jury Resister Jordan Halliday

"Here's your chance to enjoy a great supper and learn about the latest arrestee in the federal government's ongoing campaign to intimidate journalists, activists, and revolutionaries with secret Grand Juries. Jordan Halliday was arrested last Friday and now sits in a Salt Lake City County jail. The best way to let folks know that resisting Grand Juries should be the norm and not the exception is to support them. Please come to the 1-2-3 Community Space in Brooklyn, New York this Tuesday to do just that.
What
: Bi-weekly Political Prisoner Letter-writing Dinner with NYC Anarchist Black Cross
When: 7pm (sharp!), Tuesday, 17 Mar 2009
Where: 1-2-3 Community Space--123 Tompkins Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (See below for Directions)
Cost: Free!

So we've been chugging away, regular as bran fiber, for over two years-- offering up delicious meals and enough information on political prisoners to fill a book (okay, a zine, but it's still a lot of info). We do this every other Tuesday and invite you (and your friends and comrades) to come and spend the evening with NYC's Anarchist Black Cross collective. All that we ask in return is that you write a thoughtful letter to a political prisoner or, better yet, start or continue an existing correspondence. We'll provide everything from pens to stationary to stamps.

Over the past several years, the U.S. government has pulled out the old tactic of using grand juries as a political weapon, attempting to intimidate journalists, activists, and revolutionaries. As with any tactic, there are always folks willing to resist. The latest case of such resistance occurred on Friday, March 13th with the arrest of Jordan Halliday, who refused to testify before a Salt Lake City, Utah federal grand jury. This Tuesday, we'll be writing to Jordan, letting him know that there are plenty of folks who support grand jury resistance in general and his resistance in particular.

If you can't make it on Tuesday, please take the time to write Jordan a letter. At this time, his support crew is also asking for the following:

***Please call (Salt Lake County Metro Jail-- 801.743.5000 Dial 1 then 0 to get to an operator or 801.743.5500) and politely demand that he receives vegan meals and ask that he be released as he has not been charged with any crime.
***Please e-mail the sheriff at slco.org/sheriff/forms/sheriff_form.cfm

Please send letters of support to:
