Fourth Day Of Riots In Greece

Riots continued across Greece today in response to the murder of 15-year-old anarchist Alexandros Grigoropoulos by police. The boy's funeral, which was held in Athens today, quickly escalated into a clash between mourners and police (video here). Similar large clashes have been reported in Patras, while anarchist and communist groups are planning their next moves from the major universities in Athens, where police are forbidden from entering due to the nation's post-junta "right of sanctuary" law.

There have been a lot of inspiring stories emerging from Greece over the past few days, but this is easily one of the best:
"In Patras, the furious demonstrators’ block besieged the main police station only hours after the assassination. The first five arrests. The following day, a well-known local poet, now in his fifties, walked up to the police station, alone. He calmly opened his bag and, one after the other, he lit and threw the molotov cocktails he had in his bag. A new form of poetry?" (source)

Solidarity actions at several Greek consulates are planned for Wednesday, December 10th, including in New York and San Francisco; Greek consulates in Berlin and London have already been on the receiving end of protests from anarchists. Meanwhile, the webmaster of Direct Action News from Greece, who has been conspicuously absent from updating his site over the past few days, has a message for his or her fellow Greeks:

"Everybody to the streets."
